Thomas A. Tormey, Jr., Of Counsel
Professional Experience
Born and raised in New York City, Tom Tormey has been trying cases in the New York and Federal Courts for nearly thirty years. After graduating from St. John’s University Law School, he began his career in 1978 as an Assistant District Attorney in the Office of the Manhattan District Attorney, Robert M. Morgenthau. Under Mr. Morgenthau, Mr. Tormey grew from a trial attorney to the Bureau Chief of the elite Special Investigations Bureau under the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York, Sterling Johnson, Jr. (currently serving as a United States District Court Judge). In 1990, Tom left public service for private practice, concentrating his practice on complex criminal cases and white collar crime.
Mr. Tormey’s clients include companies and individuals in complex white collar criminal investigations and trials, and in civil and administrative enforcement proceedings. He defends corporate and individual clients against criminal allegations in a wide range of contexts, including grand jury investigations by federal and state prosecutors.
Conduct that results in parallel criminal and civil enforcement investigations requires a sophisticated and thorough level of representation. Mr. Tormey enables the firm to offer clients both depth and breadth of experience in the area of white collar criminal and regulatory defense.
